【誰にともなしに、独り言レス―その3086】
＞ガス・グリソムが宇宙に持っていった
コインは「ライトスタッフ」で描かれるとおり確かに 10 セントでしたが、ご本人の証言を信用するなら、実際は「ライトスタッフ」で描かれる（レスキューされた後、ぼろぼろと落とす）のとは違い、そして（もとネタの）原作「ザ・ライト・スタッフ」の記述―
旅の感傷から膝のポケットにつめこんでおいたこれらのがらくたが、いまや彼を水中にひきずりこもうとしていた…十セント玉が！…銀の重圧だ！（The dimes !—and all that other shit ! Christ, the dimes and those goddamned trinkets ! Down there in his knee pocket… He'd had the bright idea of carrying a hundred one-dollar bills on the flight as souvenirs, but he didn't have a spare hundred dollars to his name—so he decided on two rolls of fifty dimes each—and he had put in three one-dollar bills for good measure and a whole bunch of little models of the capsule—and now this big junkheap of travel sentiment stuffed in his knee pocket was taking him under… Dimes !… Silver deadweight !）
と違って、とっさにリバティベル内で出している。
当の Squirming Hatch Blower 氏の説明―
"I had sneaked two rolls of fifty dimes each with me into the space craft. I intended to distribute them to friends' children as souvenirs. I also had three one dollar bills, a couple of small models of a Mercury space craft. ～ And I knew those dimes and other stuff I shouldn't have had with me were just adding to my weight,so I emptied all that stuff inside the space craft as I scrambled out. "
この件に関しては、とりあえず―ガスさんよ、アホ呼ばわり（＞アホちゃうか ―その50 参照）してスマン。
グリソムがリバティベルに持ち込んだ 10 セントは Winged Liberty Head Dime、通称 Mercury Dime ―言うまでもなく、Liberty Bell 7 や Project Mercury にかけて、この 10 セント硬貨を宇宙土産にとシャレたんでしょう。
グリソム本人はリバティベルを脱出する際にポケットから出したと証言してるので、原作（のノンフィクションとやら）を 100％ 真に受けるわけにはいかない。
それに倣ったはずの映画では、ぼろぼろと落とす 10 セント・ロールは（原作に「十セント硬貨を五十枚ずつ巻いたものを二包み」two rolls of fifty dimes each とあるのに） 3 本あるように見えるし、はなからフィクションとしての作りに意識的（意図的）にしてるフシがある。
1999年に海底から曳き揚げられたリバティベルには（グリソムが語るとおり）10 セント硬貨が散乱していたと聞く。
