と証言している。
ちなみにアームストロング本人はインタビュー（2001年）で「ザ・ライト・スタッフ」 Tom Wolfe's The Right Stuff をどう思うか訊かれ―
I haven't read the book critically. I'm not sure I've read it all. I've read a bit. I did see the movie. I thought it was very good filmmaking, but terrible history, the wrong people working on the wrong projects at the wrong times. It bears no resemblance whatever to what was actually going on.
と応えていて、原作はろくに読んでないし、映画のほうは史実に似ても似つかぬ（The Wrong Stuff とでも呼ぶべき）代物らしいので、自身がライトスタッフなどと（意味不明の造語で）形容されるのは潔しとしない（ぞっとしない）でしょうけど。
