純正ライトスタッフ・ファンの視野狭窄にして色眼鏡越しには「ファースト・マン」の（わざわざ引っ張り出される）ちょい役・イェーガーに ＞あからさまな底意（その2892 参照） を感じてしまうのであるが、脚本のジョシュ・シンガーはインタビュー（ScreenCrush）で―
I need a superhero in order to get to the Moon. I need The Right Stuff. Where’s my Chuck Yeager? That’s what I need to get to the Moon, right? Bulls—.
と、「ファースト・マン」にチャック・イェーガーなんぞ（鼻でフンとばかりに）お呼びでない―月に降り立ったアームストロングを間違っても「ライトスタッフ」的に描くつもりはないといったふうに宣わっている。
であるなら、いったい何故に（ただでさえ「ライトスタッフ」を思い起こさせずにはいない X-15 のシーンに）のこのこイェーガーを登場させて憎まれ口のセリフを言わせる必要があるのか？

だったんじゃないの？
まあ、こうやって逆に "Bulls***" を浴びせてるんでしょうか、イェーガーに。
原作のハンセン James R. Hansen からがイェーガーを全否定してますし。

Neil and Yeager crossed paths out at Edwards [Air Force Base, in California]. Neil was still a test pilot and neither had much respect for one another. Neil was not the type of person to say negative things about anybody, but he once said to me, without my taperecorder running, that Chuck Yeager was the worst test pilot he ever knew. That was a really strong statement coming from Armstrong.
あの（人の悪口を言ったりしない）アームストロングがイェーガーを “the worst test pilot he ever knew.” との（オフレコながら）strong statement を発したとか。（いやはや…）
