スコットとスレイトンのやりとり―
スコ 「まず着陸のすぐ後に上部ハッチを開けようと思っている」（First of all, we have this idea for a stand-up EVA right after landing.）
スレ 「何だ、それ？」（What's that ?）
スコ 「LM（レム）から頭を突き出して周りを見るんだよ」（Basically sticking my head out of the LEM and having a look around.）
スレ 「ふっ…何のために？」（Why ?）
スコ 「観察するんだ 地質学的に」（To survey the site. Geologically.）
スレ 「そこまでしてやる価値のある船外活動なのか？」（―all so we can add another time-consuming item to a flight plan and training schedule that's already filled beyond capacity ?）
シルバー教授によると、このシーンでスコットの主張してる（スレイトンを呆れさせてる）ことは実際にスコット本人が申し出たアイデアで、スコットは "what do you think if, before we get out and do the first EVA, if we open the hatch at the top of the landing module, look out, take a good long view, and take a camera and shoot the big picture before we start focusing in the details." とシルバー教授に妙案（"a splendid, splendid suggestion"）を持ちかけてきたらしい。（Johnson Space Center Oral History Leon T. スコットはファルコンを着陸させた後、この通りの―本格的な船外活動を始める前に トップハッチに立って周囲を観察し、the big picture （全体像）を望遠レンズに収めた―いわゆる Stand-up EVA と称されることをやっている。

ウ 「溶岩石のたくさんある円錐状の丘」（A cinder cone with lots of lava.）
エ 「溶岩はどっちから流れてます？」（From where is the lava flowing?）
ウ 「ちきしょう…どっちだ？」（Damn! I don't know.）
エ 「円錐のどっかに割れ目が見えるでしょう」（There is a breach in the cone. Do you see?）
ウ 「…見えない」（I can't.）
エ 「当然です もう通り過ぎましたから…」（Of course not.We've passed it already.）
と突っ込んで、まずは（すばやく Quickly ! ）全体像を把握することの重要性を教え込む。
