シルバー教授の野外レクチャーの最終日、テントの下で大勢（15、6人）でビール飲みながら月面のスライドを見ては（「グランドキャニオ～ン」Grand Canyon. 「違う」No. 「隕石孔」Meteor Crater. 「そうだ」Brilliant. 「グランドキャニオ～ン」Grand Canyon. 「星が違うだろ」No kidding. 「我が愛しのアペニン山脈」Hadley Rille, my kind of place. 等々）ワイワイ大騒ぎして無礼講の打ち上げ―
「ピート・コンラッドのクルマの鍵」
アーウィンが実際にそんな（着陸地点 自称 "Pete's Parking Lot" に月面駐車したコンラッドにかけた？）ギャグを言ったかは定かではないが、アポロ15 の空軍クルーはアポロ12（海軍トリオ）のバックアップだったので、いかにも口にしそうな戯れ言ではある。
だとしても、このシーンどおりの状況でではなく、このシチュエーションは殆んど脚色だろうから。
まず、あんな大掛かりなテントがあったのか疑問だし、わざわざ野外でスライドを（「グランドキャニオ～ン」などと飲んでフザケながら）映るってのも変だし、別立て（CMP 用）メニューのエルバズ・ウォーデン師弟コンビが混じってるのも妙な話―似たようなことが実際にあったとしたら、ちゃんとした屋内（バックルームとか）でのことだと推測するが…
テントについては、シルバー教授が "We didn't have any tents" と明言しており、確かに寝るためのテントはなかったに違いないけれど、capcom 担当用にテントを使ってはいて、capcom のジョー・アレンの顔も目立つので、或いはそのテントという設定か―シルバー教授も capcom（"was a guy by name of Joe Allen."）と一緒に訓練したと仰ってますし。
野外レクチャー最終日の打ち上げ参加者にはスレイトンもいて、これはスコットが（「一度 野外実習に来てみろよ、そりゃ楽しいぞ」I think you'd see the value if you joined us on a field trip sometime. と）誘っていた話の流れとして分るが、フライト・ディレクターのジェリー・グリフィンまでが（ノコノコ）顔を出してる。 （それどころか、よく見るとプログラム・ディレクターのロッコ・ペトローネまでも… どうも野外には似合わぬ屋内限定的な顔ぶれのような？）
※ ペトローネは LM（ファルコン）の着陸サイトをシルバー教授やスコットらの主張どおり（すったもんだ協議した末に反対派のマリウス案を退け）ハドリー・アペニン Hadley- Appenine に決定した―という話の展開ではあるけど。
それでも（仮に屋内で似たようなことがあったにしても）、どうもアーウィンがスコットを差し置いてシルバー教授に茶々を入れるなんてことはなかったふうであり、シルバー教授によるとアーウィンは常に船長のスコットを立てていて（He always deferred to Dave.）スコットと話をしてもシルバー教授とは話さなかった（But he’d talk to Dave; he didn’t talk to me.）らしいので、やはりハリウッド式の演出に思える。
それに、野外レクチャーの石の採集訓練で互いに「お前だけには負けたくないからな」とムキになるスコットとアーウィンの笑えるシーンがあるけれど、確かに（この二人に限らず）クルー同士の競い合い、それぞれのミッション同士の競い合いは（周知のようにマーキュリー以来）厳然としてあるにはあるが、どうも（シルバー教授の話からすると）ちょっと様子が違ったのかもしれない。

The field geology trips provided the practical training ground to complement the astronauts’ classroom training. By their nature, astronauts were curious, and many became dedicated to studying the space sciences. Scott, Griffin, and I made for a colorful trio, to put it mildly. All three of us had flown jet fighters. Scott could have served as a poster for astronaut recruitment. He and Griffin shared a cheery exuberance, a perpetual optimism, and a zest for their work.

While training the astronauts, the geology instructors used sites that covered the globe, from the volcanic areas of Iceland to the Grand Canyon, from the mountains of New Mexico to the craters of Hawaii. This training would be vital in selecting the materials to be returned to Earth from the Moon and in answering such questions as the Moon’s age and composition.

No one among them impressed me more than Lee Silver. He stood out as we were setting up the surface science rooms, and again during the skull sessions at the apartment of Jack Schmitt. Silver had taught Schmitt as a student at CalTech, and it was obvious they shared the same passions. Silver’s academic credentials were formidable, but the man was even more impressive. You can tell great teachers by their demeanor, how they talk, how they always seem effortlessly in control. Silver appeared born to roam the deserts and mountains, reading the land.
