そして、ファイナルカットは独り(たぶん)ビーチクラフト機で(注目すべきことには "Think I see a plane over here with my name on it." と言わんばかりに) 飛び立つ(もちろんフライトジャケット姿の)トゥルーディを 6 人(ルイーズ、ベティ、アニー、リーン、ジョー、マージ)が見送る―

ナレーション

Six manned moon landings succeeded in the Apollo program.

Of the 30 space couples in the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs, only seven marriages survived.

23 years after Dr.Lovelace qualified 13 women for astronaut training, Sally Ride went into space.

まさにこれこそが The Astronaut Wives Club の本筋であり、正しい(Trudy=Yeager 然とした「ライトスタッフ」的)終わり方と申せましょう。

ラストシーンのもとネタ 原作 "The Astronaut Wives Club"(Lily Koppel)―

“I was looking at the book Astronauts and Their Families just the other day,” said Wally Schirra, who'd left the program after his Apollo 7 flight, "and I was really shocked how few of those guys were married to those women anymore.” Out of the Mercury Seven, the New Nine, and the Fourteen space families, only seven couples would stay together. “Our marriage has only lasted so long because you were away half of the time,” ribbed Jo. Wally and Jo had traded their Timber Cove home for the fresh Rocky Mountain air of Colorado. They stuck together; so did Louise and Alan, and Annie and John. The Mercury wives had been through a lot together. Some were just now finding themselves. In 1971, Trudy Cooper finally became a Powder Puffer, flying in the Powder Puff Derby, sponsored by Virginia Slims. The cigarette's slogan, “You've Come a Long Way, Baby,” was the theme of the year's race.

トゥルーディの紹介 原作 "The Astronaut Wives Club"―

Trudy's husband, Gordo, was a tanned, cocky little fellow with a wide country boy's grin. He was the youngest of the astronauts, and the most experienced pilot in the group. He was real slow-talkin' and from Oklahoma. When chestnut-haired Trudy met Gordo at the University of Hawaii, she was already a pilot herself, dashing in Wayfarers as she purred over Oahu Island in a Piper Cub. Her heart was set on entering the Powder Puff Derby, the women's transcontinental air race founded decades earlier by Amelia Earhart and Pancho Barnes. Pancho had once run Pancho's Happy Bottom Riding Club, a bar on Edwards Air Force Base, and led a gang of hellcat aviatrixes in Pancho Barnes's Mystery Circus of the Air. Gordo was used to adventurous women. Hell, his eighty-six-year-old grandmother, still kicking in Shawnee, Oklahoma, was a rootin'-tootin' cowgirl who said she'd go with Gordo into space if she could. (Chapter One: Introducing the Wives)

 Odette Annable(トゥルーディ役)の証言―

“She was a real trailblazer, a modern thinker,” “Gordon Cooper even mentioned that Trudy may have been a better pilot than he was himself, and that everything he knew, he learned from his wife. She had to go through so many things at that time and had to stand up for herself, even in the way she raised her daughters. She wanted to instill in them the same thoughts she had.”

“‘Gordo’ and Trudy had such a fun story to tell. Even though they did end up getting a divorce, they had a great love story.”
