ウィリアム王子（英王室）が派手に注目される宇宙旅行ビジネス（heading out into space）よりも、この地球環境（の救済 trying to repair this planet）にこそ取り組む（focusing on this planet）べきだと批判したことに対し、カーク船長は「ずれてる」（The prince is missing the point）「考え違い」（he’s got the wrong idea）として―
例えば宇宙で発電すれば地球を汚染せずにすむ（this is a baby step into the idea of getting industry up there, so that all those polluting industries, especially, for example, the industries that make electricity ... off of Earth.）
との旨を語っている。
わたしはウィリアム王子の主張には全く与しないが、カーク船長の発想も基本的に「ずれてる」と感じる―宇宙開発からが宇宙の環境破壊（その3258参照）だと思われるので。
コロラド大（University of Colorado, Boulder Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences）教授の科学者 ダリン・トゥーイー Darin Toohey は―
"I actually grew up on the space program and that got me into science.... But if someone offered me a free ride, I would be very nervous taking it because I would know that my own [carbon]footprint is way larger than it should be"
と（カーク船長のような）宇宙への free ride には炭素排出量の問題上（The issue here is really one of disproportionate impacts）遠慮せざるを得ないと述べる―宇宙計画（たぶん個人的にはオーロラ７のスコット・カーペンターか―その3205参照）に感化されて科学者になったにも拘らず。（とのことです）
