シラー役のランス・ヘンリクセン（On playing Wally Schirra in The Right Stuff）は―
I was very unhappy with how The Right Stuff turned out. Phil Kaufman did it as a satire, and I thought the Mercury astronauts were heroes, not “spam in a can.” I was very outspoken about it when the film came out, and I don’t think Phil ever forgave me. Gordo Cooper and I became very good friends afterward, and he was my advisor on a screenplay I wrote about space travel. と、カウフマンの皮肉な描き方（satire）が全く気に入らなかったようで、そのせいか（もともとシラーは本筋には不要だし）殆どカットされてる感じだけど、「ライトスタッフ」で冗長装置 a redundant component（その3030参照）的に扱われるシラーとスレイトンはアポロ月ミッションでも欠くべからず存在ゆえ「人類、月に立つ」では（その尻拭いと言うか、反動みたいに）幅を利かせてますね。（哀れ海底の藻屑となったカーペンターは除く―その3202参照）
特に（シラーのマーク・ハーモンにも増して―その3315参照）差配役のディーク・スレイトンにニック・サーシーが扮し、いい味付けのキャスティングになっている。（その3224参照）

雑感―その 230
マーク・ハーモンは 「人類、月に立つ」 で ウォーリー・シラー に扮して目立っとりましたけど、そのシラー役に 「ライトスタッフ」 では ランス・ヘンリクセン、こちらは全然（とりあえず数合わせにいるだけで）目立っとらん。
あ、「クリミナル・インテント」 だか 「コールド・ケース」 だか、ジェリコ・イヴァネク が（いつも似たような役柄の）犯人でキューピー頭を晒しとりましたが、もはや安易とさえ感じるキャスティングやね―「人類、月に立つ」 の ケン・マッティングリー 役みたいなのも（あれこれ）やらんと。
あれで ビリー・ボブ なんかも宇宙飛行士役とか変に似合うやろ―「アルマゲドン」 じゃ ディーク・スレイトン ふうやったし。
スレイトンは 「人類、月に立つ」 で扮する ニック・サーシー が主役の一人くらいの扱いで、「ライトスタッフ」 の スコット・ポーリン はもちろん、「アポロ 13」 の クリス・エリス とも大違い。
誰やかれや、おっさん脇役で固めた実録宇宙ものを想像するだけで楽しめるなぁ… （小男だった ガス・グリソム を ガンドルフィーニ が演ったりして―できなくなったけど）
